Drawing and Place Workshops: Glasgow
In spring 2024, I hosted a series of free drawing workshops with(in) my community in Glasgow, based along the Forth and Clyde canal. Using gestural mark-making and practices of deep listening/noticing, the participants created unique drawings while walking along the waterway. I was interested in how the practice is a form of sensory mapping, so as we gathered at the end of the walks and shared our gleanings, we built our ideas into a larger drawn map of the canal. These pieces reflected the journey of the day and expressed how the participants experienced their environment. It was a great way to build community and forge a shared understanding of place, especially with non-artists and locals who have historical relationships with the canal.
