Descoverartists: Residency in Hydra
In June 2022, I attended a month-long residency with Descoverartists on the Greek Island of Hydra. The time spent with seven other women creating, learning and talking allowed for a deepening of my relationship with water and mark making. I was interested in markmaking as a way of inhabiting the island and getting to know myself and my context. We made walks and recordings daily, exploring where we ended, and the island began- this time generated my sustaining curiosity of the boundaries between the body and place. I am continuously interested in the image of the coastline representing this liquid and malleable border- particularly in the context of the climate crisis, where human impact is measured and examined.
I asked myself: What can the coastline teach us about climate change, and how am I in conversation with “my” environment?
